Ice Hotel Sweden (Incredible architectural sculptures)

22nd February 2017 Uncategorised 0 Comments

Last week I was lucky enough to visit the Ice Hotel in Sweden, recreated every year for the last 27 years, this amazing creation brings the work of over 20 artists/ sculptures together to create the most amazing fantastical rooms sculpted from ice. There are many themes, from rooms filled with giant ice jellyfish, greek mythology to mysterious angel figures. Ice is the most incredible medium to work with and the resulting pieces are magical, solid sculpture pieces, diffused through with colour and light. It is taken in giant block from the nearby river Torne while it is frozen in March, stored until November, then the artists and crafts people work away to create this 60 bed hotel, complete with bar that will for last four months. Temperatures in the rooms average a cozy -5 to – 8 at night, but warm reindeer skins, sleeping bags and thermals keep you warm!
Here is a selection of images from the some of the bedrooms.
